Im 15 years old and ive been saving up to purchase a honda crf 230f. I need help choosing the right gear for trail riding. I will be going out to trails at least once a week so i need durable gear but gear thats also fairly cheap.

Go to a large cycle store and try on a lot of different gear, find what fits good and is comfortable. Walk around in it a while, as you will be wearing it for hours on your bike. You may find some of last years closeouts, and ask for a discount for multiple purchases. You could go online to rocky mountain or other shops.GOOD LUCK, RIDE SAFE.

i live in portland oregon and need to buy some new riding gear including boots jacket and gloves and possibly wrist guards and maybe a new D.O.T. regulation helmet

How many teeth will i need on my front sprocket and my back sprocket for a street and dirt gear ratio

Most street, park and dirt riders ride all three surfaces and desire smaller gears to simulate a gearing similar to BMX gearing. The small gears have less chance of bending or breaking when practicing tricks as well as less surface area of dangerous pointed chainwheels if and when a trick goes awry. Typically these riders use what are called "lo-lo" gears with a small 25 to 28 tooth chainwheel up front paired with a 9 tooth cog in the rear. A 26/9 combination results in a 56.33 gear ratio.

I have a dirt bike, its a 150cc and I always keep it in 5th gear because I like to go fast. Should I shift every now and then, and if so in what order.

i ride a 125 yamaha and have been ridin it sence i was 9 and im now 18 i always shift because u will get up to a higher speed faster and think what it is doin to ur clutch for it to put power down at such a high gear u need high rpms and if u use the clutch to get the rpms up then u r gonna be replacin a clutch a lot sooner than u want

my advice just learn how to shirt then u can start doin wheelies and if u think goin fast is fun get on one wheel it is better!! trust me

I have a yamaha tw 200 and It starts up nice but then when I put it into gear it turns right off. I let it warm up and everything. Whats the problem. I am confused.

It’s almost always fuel related. Clean the carburetor and see how it does then and replace the fuel filter. If it’s been a while since you rode it, flush out the fuel tank and get some fresh gas..

I want to know the correct steps to starting a dirt bike and shifting gears. I have a Honda CRF50 and when i shift gears sometimes it wont kick into first but when i pull the lever on the handle then kick it up it goes into first. I don’t have to much experience with dirt bikes so can someone please give me the steps to shifting gears (Ex. neutral to first, first to second) and what to do and what not to do to break the bike?

well i have a 80 and a 70 honda good bike well the steps r start out in nertual than 1 than 2 and if u have an automatic thats all u need to go in to ifu have a clutch start in neural 1 than 2 than 3 than 4 if it will not let u brake if u have a clutch go into a lower gear or use front or back brakes good luck hope u have as much fun on urs as i do

If ya are so worried then don’t get a bike as of course riding is dangerous. Ya can get all sorts of injuries and just have ta be careful. A cr80r is an older bike and for someone as tall as you it would be more likely for injury as you are too big for the bike. Nobody can put an exact amount of danger as we don’t know how you ride. I wouldn’t wanna be racing the thing at your height but as you will be gettin ya knees tangled up in the bars so it is increasing the probability of an accident.

that depends on how you ride it you could do a trail that’s not bad at all or you could do some tracks

but for me personally i would hurt my self more on the 80 then i would on my yz250( i would go on some jump that the 250 makes easy and just not have the power or speed to make the landing)

I have a honda CRF50 and lately it has been harder to shift up into first gear (…yes UP) but it is possible. But when i try to go from first to second gear it won’t shift. Any answers to why this problem is? Note: it has an auto clutch. People are telling my to check for a bent shifter. On the outside it doesn’t look bent. What do i have to do to check on the inside if it is bent. Steps? What must i disassemble?

I would take it to a shop. There is special tools you need. You basically have to tear the whole engine apart to get to the tranny. Not a simple fix.

they may be referring to a bent shift lever which is what you use to shift up. that could also be in the wrong position.

Unless you have a manual or know what your doing please take it to a shop.
