A Helmet as u said. Make sure u get high boot otherwise there is a easy chance of the footpeg going into ur ankle. Wellighnton boots can be a cheaper option. Body armour and/or a kidney belt are unecesary but if u want to do motorcross u need them (depends on how much money u have and how safe u want to be). Jumpers and pants arnt needed, but look better and most provied more protection/padding. Goggles are needed for eye protection depending it u do or dont have a full face mask.
Aswell FOX is a high quality brand and obviouslly depending on how much u spend the better the gear. Hope i helped
References :
Me And Friends

you don't "need" anything... however it is a very good idea to "dress for the crash, not the ride". I would say definately a helmet and boots. you can get good products that don't have $500 price tags. I have a fulmer helmet and Gaerne cypher boots. Both are very comfortable and no problems with either and for a few hundred bucks less than an arai helmet or more expensive boots, i would say its a good deal.
