Hand guards that loop to the side of the bar will cover them. you can also buy plastic inserts to put inside the handle bar. you have to cut your new grips to insert it into the end of the bar though. you can get them for BMX bikes too

Pro-Taper Pillow Grips. They are comfortable, stylish, and the end is made of hard plastic that dosn’t rip when you tip over.

ALSO you might want to make sure you arent installing your grips too far onto the handle bars, and at the same time too loose. also your bike isnt made to use the handle bars as a kick stand, use a triangle stand if you have one or just use a 5gal. bucket or 2 to sit your bike on it. in my experience ive never ripped mine in a crash, but usually from leaning it against the side of my shed for years.

Everyone forgot the easiest trick in the book, put a nickel into the grip then put it on. The nickel acts as a plug on the end of the bar so the end of the bar cant puncture your grip.
