I have a 1994 Kawasaki KLX 250 Dirtbike with a kick start. When it tips over during off road riding, it is very hard to start. Recently, it took more than 30 minutes of kicking it (off and on) to get it started. It usually starts with one or two kicks. Is there any quicker way to try to start it? I assume the engine gets flooded when it tips over. Any tips?

When a dirt bike lays on it's side it floods....... The best way to start it, if you can't kick start it, is to push it to the top a small slope or hill, hold the clutch in, put it in a high gear, and free roll down the hill. When you have enough speed let off the clutch and it will have started.

Beats me, I laid over my 750 Supersport a couple times in the middle of the street and picked it up, started it, and took off right afterwards before any cops drove by, must be your bike itself or something….

DO NOT HOLD THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN!! Just let it sit for a few minutes and it will be right. I cartwheeled a dirtbike once and gave it 5 minutes or so and it went first kick. Just wait for 5 minutes and try kicking with no throttle. That should do the trick.

Haha. My friend loves it when I’m close by and he dumps his bike and it won’t start.
Stand it up as straight as possible. Then, rock it foward to back for 5 seconds, side to side for 5 seconds, Repeat.
Do this about twice and go to start it how you would normally. It should start right up. To also help… Usually, when you tip a bike, the gas either flooded the machine, or deprived it of too much. Sometimes when you’re kickstarting it, try three things. Throttle Partially open, wide open, or half open. Doing my little technique usually helps the fluids settle/return more quickly. Also, if you can, take spark plug out, wipe it off thoroughly, then reinsert and start it up. You could also try getting enough speed and rolling it down a hill with the clutch in, but this takes a little while. I either roll it down a steep hil or use that shake technique.

I hate when you dump it in front of ALL your friends and you can’t start it back up! It blows. Do this and it should work.

Press on the kill switch, hold the throttle wide open, kick the bike over four or five timesj, then release the kill switch, roll back the throttle to just a crack, work the engine to past the compression stroke and romp on it. This clears the engine from the flooding caused by leaning the bike over, holding the kill switch keeps the bike from backfiring through the carb and burning up your filter. You’ll get the hang of it after a couple of times….pete
