As long as you stick with the major brands, (Trek, Raleigh, Gary Fisher, etc.) fit is more important than brand name. ALL the major brand names are good. Find one that you are comfortable riding.

Personally, I had a low end Trek 820 once. I like it because of the super low 1st gear for climbing hills. Now I have lower back problems & stick with my hybrid bike for the upright riding position.

AS you plan to ride in gravel then a Mountain bike is the best bet trouble most come with front suspension trouble is suspension needs attention not best option travelling so look at all mountain bikes with no suspension or hi-bred bikes no suspension Also check out for older mountain bike with no suspension any of those options will be able to do the task and be usable afterwards by you. don’t let any one tell you cant travel 100k a day on mountain you definitely can.
